Hadia – Your Desi Breezer from Central India – It is made in Bihar, Orissa, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. It is the traditional rice based alcohol, which is quite low in alcohol content. So you can go for this one if you’re someone who goes all high on a Breezer. 😛 Its West Bengal version contains as many as 25 herbs. Now that’s a lot of herbs in an alcohol! Must give it a try.

Lugdi – Rice liquor from the Freezing Manali – Again, a crude beer made from fermented rice or barley in the plains and Himalayan parts of Manali. In the Himalayan Manali you’ll find more of Chaang. And when you distill Lugdi/Chhang, you get Arak.

Mahua – Central Indian Liquor made of Flowers – You’ll get versions of this country liquor throughout Bihar, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh. It is made by fermenting the dried flowers of Mahua, a large tropical tree, and ‘Chhowa Gud’. A drink not to be missed if you’re in one of these states.

Feni – The famous Cashew Apple Liquor from Goa – This cashew apple or coconut based liquor has a good 42-43% ability to make you trip over your tongue. The main ingredient of many a cocktail menu items in Goa, this one has got a Geographical Indication registration which makes it unable to be sourced from anywhere else, but

Cholai – Yet another liquor from the land of white tigers – Another good local one from West Bengal which you must try once you are in the land of two rivers. It is a rice and mahua based drink that will give you a little different taste than usual rice beers.
