The runway is 527 meters (1,729 feet) × 30 meters (98 feet) with an 11.7% gradient. The airport’s elevation is 9,334 feet (2,845 meters). A program titled Most Extreme Airports, broadcast on The History Channel in 2010, rated the airport as the most dangerous airport in the world for over 20 years. The airport was built in 1964 under the supervision of Edmund Hillary, who originally intended to build the airport on flat farmlands. However, local farmers did not want to give up their land, so the airport was built at its current position. Hillary bought the land from local Sherpas for US$2,650 and involved them in building the facilities. Technically one of the finest Airport and worth visiting. It is always advisable to stay for a Night at Lukla to acclamatise. Next day one can avail Chopper / Helicopter service to visit Mount Everest Base camp. One can stop at Kala Patthar. Pack your bags and get yourself to Nepal for an incredible journey to the base of world’s tallest mountain peak. Trek with no hassles as your experienced mountain guide takes care of your accommodation, meals, taxes and fees on the trail. Experience the joy of conquering great heights as you look down at the world from more than 5,000 meters above sea level.

Nepal’s peak climbing seasons are traditionally late March to May and September to November. These periods are either side of the main monsoon period in this area of Asia. The first of these periods is also the most popular period for climbs of the higher peaks. The weather in the higher regions of Nepal sees a very large diurnal variation in temperature. On most days you will notice a daily cycle where it is usually clear and cold in the morning with the sun warming the air through the morning and white clouds rolling in soon after lunch. It is important to plan your clothing to account for the large variation in temperatures that you will see at different times of day and also at different stages of the trek.

The trek takes 12 – 14 days from Bhadrapur to Bhadrapur – If you fly into and out of the mountain airstrip of Lukla and take the normal route to base camp.
