As per history the area was ruled by Bhutanese kings and was a post of the Bhutanese Army till the 19th century hence the Buddhist influence is strong in Kalimpong. Post-Anglo-Bhutan War in 1864, the Treaty of Sinchula (1865) was signed, in which Bhutanese held territory east of the Teesta River was ceded to the British East India Company. The special attraction of Kalimpong cannot be numbered. The Snow peak Mountains of the Himalayan Range and the altitude made Kalimpong the most beautiful of the destination in West Bengal in India. The Historical importance is worth reading & check after visiting. Magnificent heritage architecture, colourful festivals, beautiful arts and crafts, traditional music, delicious ethnic food, chocolate specialties make Kalimpong truly a brilliant experience offering unique diversities. The district of Kalimpong is home to Nepalis, Lepchas, Tibetans, and other ethnic groups and is also a religious center for Buddhism.

Black Tea is grown in the Kalimpong district. Zurran Tea Estate and Bungalow, Fagu Tea House / Bungalow are quite familiar in this region.
