Uttarey

Uttarey is a valley worth visiting if guest are interested in peace and tranquility.  It is a small but beautiful and a virgin paradise on earth set amidst the pristine valley.  It is surrounded by hill tops, waterfalls, frothing rivers, evergreen forest, medicinal herbs and mountains hamlets. It also serves as the base camp for the Singalila Range trek. It is the gate Way of Indo - Nepal Border route  through Chewabhanjyangla pass. Situated at Singalila rang, Pokhtey Dhara in the West and Neydham (Dichenphu) in the north it is an ideal place fopr leisure holiday and short treks. One can complete the circuit of  Okhrey - Hilley - Varsey - Anden - Uttarey in one short tour. One can visit Pemayangtshe, Pelling, Khangchendzopnga Waterfalls, Chhangey Twin Falls, Alpine Cheese Industries, Srijanga Mangheeem, Chhayatal, Rock Garden, Phangdorgee Fall etc.

It is best during Mid November to Mid April for clear sky and the rest of the season views might get blocked due to clouds. The stay is really a unique and a memorable experience of life. The village is surrounded by black Mountain and is known for few of the trek route.  Limboo Tribal Home Stay , Sherpagawn Home Stay, Ghonday Village Resort, Ferek Lepcha Home Stay and few more are available. The area is known for the Trout Breeding center, Mainebass waterfalls, Kagyup Monastery, Tenzing - Hillary Park and the beautiful Saino Bridge. Pelling sightseeing can be done from here and is one day program .One day family trek to Mainibass water falls is recommended to tourist, it is four and half kilometers from Uttarey. Two to Three day trek for professionals can be through Singallila. Phokteydhara, Achelley Lake, Kalijar stay can be done in camps in the three to four day trek. Varsey Trek and Sandakphu trek can also be done from here. Singallila - Phoktey Dhara - Phalut - Sandakphu trek route can be organised. Uttarey is a sherpa village and the host is known for the hopitality.Angling in river Ishanglay is also highly recommended. Three to four night stay is the minimum one can do. Cheery Blossoms in the months of October – November and on Rhododendron Blossom in the months of March-April-May, spring offers fluttering butterflies, singing with the chirping birds and enjoying with the breezing bees all around. It is short an ideal place for  adventure tourism,  botany, zoology, ornithology , ethnology  tour and also an ideal place for the quite holiday home-seekers, village-tourism, nature lover, bird watchers with rewarding walks and trekking trails with the nature’s panoramic view.

Communication

Road from Siliguri takes 6 - 7 hours drive by car and is roughly 165 kilometers and is 5 - 6 hours from Bagdogra irport (IXB) / New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP). The route followed is Siliguri - Jorethang - Soreng - Kaluk - Hee - Birmiok - Dentam - Uttarey. Three off shoot route are Rinchenpong from Kaluk, Pelling after Dentam and Chayataal after Dentam. The drive is 5 - 6 hours. It is nerarly the same time from Gangtok. Dentam to Uttarey is a nearly 20 kilometers, Rinchenpong to Uttarey is roughly 40 kilometers, Kaluk to Uttarey is nearly 55 kilometers and Pelling is nearly 30 kilometers. 3 -4  hours from Darjeeling and Kalimpong and 1 1/2  hours from Pelling – Uttarey in extreme West Sikkim is  Hidden Paradise on Earth, and also is popularly known as the Base Camp of Adventure Tourism for the Singalila Range Eco-Tourism Trekking Trail Towards Khangchendzenga and also an important Gate Way of International-Indo-Nepal Border Trade Route through  Chewabhanjyan pass.
